Frequently Asked Questions

Can I attend your conference if I don’t write romance?
Absolutely! Even if you don’t write romance, you’ll find plenty of workshops to keep you busy! For a full line-up of our workshops, please visit the workshops page on our website.

Which Chicago airport is closest to the Sheraton Grand Chicago?
Either Midway or O’Hare airport will work fine. Midway is closer, but O’Hare offers a greater choice of flights and airlines. Both airports offer train service to downtown.

  • Distance to O’Hare International Airport (ORD): 18 miles
  • Distance to Midway International Airport (MDW): 12 miles

How do I get to the Sheraton Grand from the airport?
The hotel does not offer a shuttle service from the airport, so we suggest you take the train, hail a cab, or call Uber or Lyft. If you choose to drive to the hotel, please be aware that the on-site parking is $59/day. CTA train schedules into the city are posted at both airports.

Train stations near the hotel:

State/Lake CTA station – 0.7 mile (trains from Midway stop here)
Ogilvie Transportation Center – 1.5 miles (METRA)
Union Station – 1.7 miles (METRA)
CTA Red line (subway) Grand and State stop – 0.6 mile
CTA Blue line (subway) Clark and Lake stop – 0.9 mile (trains from O’Hare stop here)

Can I register the day of the conference?
You must pre-register for the conference; we do not take registrations onsite. Registration will close April 9, 2020.

I can attend only one day of the conference. Do you have one-day passes?
Unfortunately, we do not offer one-day passes. Even if you can attend only one day, the fee would remain the same.

I volunteered! When will I find out my volunteer assignment?

Thank you for volunteering. We can’t run the conference without our volunteers! We will email your assignment and responsibilities in mid to late March.

I signed up to pitch. Am I guaranteed a pitch appointment? How many pitch appointments do I get?
Our goal is to give ONE pitch appointment to everyone who wants one, but with over 150 registrants requesting to pitch to our six agents and editors, we cannot guarantee everyone an appointment. Pitches are assigned in the order we receive registration and payment.

When will the workshop schedule be posted?
We expect to finalize the schedule in mid-March, at which time we will post it on our website.

Do I have to register for the conference to attend the book signing?
If you would like to be a signing author at the book signing, yes. Our book signing event is free and open to the public to attend as a reader. Books will need to be purchased onsite or brought in.

Can I bring promotional items to be distributed in the Goody Room?
Yes. We will have a goody table available near the book fair room. All are welcome to distribute promotional items.

What should I wear to the Gala dinner?
The Gala Dinner on Friday night is semi-formal. Jeans are too casual, a ballgown is too formal. A festive dress, a cute suit, or a cocktail dress would be perfect.

I registered for Spring Fling but something came up. How do I cancel my registration?
Please e-mail the Chicago-North treasurer as soon as possible at Note that cancellations are subject to a $75 cancellation fee. Please note: CNRWA is not liable for changes in workshops, speakers, or conference dates due to unforeseen circumstances such as the current coronavirus crisis. Because of our upfront expenses, we regret that we cannot waive the cancellation fee. If you cancel now and re-register for the 2020 conference at a later date, we will apply a discount of $50 to the new registration fee.
